With Tax Day around the corner, many employees are looking for tax help. As a reminder, neither the UW Payroll Office nor HR administrators can provide tax advice. However, some employees are eligible for free tax preparation services.
VITA Services Offered at the UW
IRS-certified UW Master’s in Taxation students are offering free tax preparation services to employees with household incomes below $80,000 – including international students – through the United Way of King County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
What to know:
UW Vita runs January 27 through April 14, 2026, at Dempsey Hall on the UW campus. No appointments are necessary. Services are available three days a week:
- Tuesdays, 11:00 am-2:30 pm
- Thursdays, 11:00 am-2:30 pm
- Fridays, 11:00 am-2:30 pm
Please note: the UW VITA site will be closed during Finals Week and Spring Break, March 21-29.
For more details, including a list of what you must bring with you, visit the UW VITA page.
VITA services offered throughout Seattle:
If the UW dates or location don’t work for you, you can still find free professional tax help – virtually or in-person at several different locations throughout the greater Seattle area – on the United Way’s Get Free Tax Help page. Translation services are also available if you need them.
